A Time to React

01July2014

One who fully believes in the truth of his or her actions isn’t deterred by anyone or anything. For example, even if the entire world scoffs at our observance of one of the Torah’s commandments, a true believer, the baal emuna, cannot be swayed.

With the above principle in mind, we can now understand the current Israel government’s utterly paralyzing fear of world opinion and hesitation in reacting assertively. Amazingly, our country’s level of emuna and power of deterrence are directly proportional – the lower the emuna, the lower the deterrence. Why the hesitation? The politicians simply lack belief in our Divine-sanctioned right to our holy homeland. Despite the fact that Eyal Yifrach, Naftali Frenkel and Gilad Shaer have been torn from us in the most cruel and barbaric way and the south of Israel is again under siege, the politicians in their pitiful indecision have reacted by letting the IDF bomb empty buildings in Gaza (sic), despite the fact that Hamas now openly admits its part in the 20+ rocket-barrage that hit the south of Israel in recent hours.

With Hamas-like radical Islam spreading like wildfire and the ISIS having taken over entire sections of Iraq and Syria, Israel’s sterile gloves – both military and spiritual – need to be removed. Just as our Torah and emuna should be the products of total dedication, and not of mediocrity, so should our power of military deterrence, which in recent years has sorely eroded. Our neighbors in this tough side of the globe respect power – both the power of faith and the power of dedication, which sometimes requires us to take up arms. Their dark-side faith leads to Jihad and atrocities; our holy peace-loving and humanitarian faith must be stronger than theirs. It’s time to react without holding back, both in our observance of Torah and in our defense of our country.

We need Three things:

  • We Must be Unified. Have Brotherly Love of every Jew.

  • Love every Jew no matter what! Smile, DON’T SPEAK Loshon Hora, and Smile!

  • Learn Emuna and make Teshuva

From Wikipedia: Carpet bombing, also known as saturation bombing, is a large aerial bombing done in a progressive manner to inflict damage in every part of a selected area of land. The phrase evokes the image of explosions completely covering an area, in the same way that a carpet covers a floor. Carpet bombing is usually achieved by dropping many unguided bombs. In contrast to precision bombing, it is not aimed at a small target such as a bunker, an airfield, or a military unit. One of its uses is the aerial bombing of cities. The term obliteration bombing is sometimes used to describe especially intensified bombing with the intention of destroying a city or a large part of the city. The term area bombing refers to indiscriminate bombing of an area, and also encompasses cases of carpet bombing, including obliteration bombing. It was used in that sense especially during World War II.

Why Netanyahu has not ordered a ground invasion

http://israelmatzav.blogspot.co.il/2014/07/why-netanyahu-has-not-ordered-ground.html
Prime Minister Netanyahu has not ordered a ground invasion due to international pressure and due to the fact that he understands that he would be sending at least some IDF soldiers to their deaths. We all understand that. But there’s more to it than that. Elliott Abrams writes that Netanyahu has not ordered a ground invasion because of the warped moral calculation it would cause with respect to casualty numbers. For one thing, Netanyahu knows he would be sending some Israeli soldiers to their deaths. But he also knows that in the sick math of the Gaza war, Israel would be blamed for “disproportionate” killing.

What that means is simple: too many Palestinians would die, and “not enough” Israelis–in the view of much of “world opinion.” You would read that calculation in the New York Times and see it on the BBC. In “Operation Cast Lead” in 2008, about 1000-1400 Palestinians died, and 13 Israelis. In “Operation Pillar of Defense” in 2012 it was something like 150 to 6. As of now, in the current conflict there are no Israeli deaths and about 100 Palestinian deaths. Here’s how Time Magazine started its story:

The death toll among Palestinians scrambling under a relentless Israeli air assault in the Gaza Strip passed 80 Thursday and edged close to 100 Friday, including at least 14 children….Meanwhile, the barrage of rockets Gaza militants launched toward Israeli cities failed to produce a significant casualty on the third day of Israel’s offensive Thursday….The Israeli military said it destroyed more buildings in the first 36 hours of the current campaign than in all of Pillar of Defense. More people are dying too: the 80 fatalities reported so far is, once again, more than half the reported death toll from the longer bombing two years earlier.

Time then discussed exactly this phenomenon: when what “world opinion” sees as “too many” Palestinians dying and the balance is “too great” in Israel’s favor–that is, too many Palestinians and not enough Israelis being killed–the calls for a cease-fire will escalate. Moral equivalency between Israel and Hamas will be the order of the day–except for those who elevate Hamas, since after all it is killing fewer people!

Remember this: in the Second World War, the United States suffered 416,000 combat deaths, or about 0.32 percent of the population. Germany suffered 4-5 million combat deaths, or about 5 percent of the population. The death ratio was 10 to 1. Did that make the war unjust? Does that mean the United States inflicted “disproportionate” numbers of casualties? Unfortunately the Israelis know “world opinion” will never be on their side in these arguments. Let’s just hope the United States is.

UN Human Rights chief Navi Pillay

UN Human Rights chief Navi Pillay

UPDATE: UN Human Rights chief Navi Pillay has already proved this analysis right, even before an Israeli ground incursion. She said this today:

For its part, the Government of Israel must take all possible measures to ensure full respect for the principles of distinction, proportionality and precautions in attack, during the conduct of hostilities, as required by international humanitarian law. In all circumstances, they must avoid targeting civilians. However, we have received deeply disturbing reports that many of the civilian casualties, including of children, occurred as a result of strikes on homes. Such reports raise serious doubt about whether the Israeli strikes have been in accordance with international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

So, she is already accusing Israel of breaking international humanitarian law and human rights law. Perhaps since Goldstone has retired, she is filling in.

You have to wonder what the outcome of World War II would have been had the World been as ‘moral’ as it is today.

HaGaon HaRav Mutzafi: “We are Jews, Bnei Yisrael, we are sons of HKBH and remember His Name and he will be there to assist”.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday morning 3 Tammuz, HaGaon HaRav Bentzion Mutzafi Shlita explained the boys, Gilad Shaar, Naftali Frenkel and Eyal Yifrach HY”D were chosen to be a kapora for Am Yisrael.

July 1, 2014 http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/headlines-breaking-stories/244575/hagaon-harav-mutzafi-they-were-selected-as-a-kapora-for-am-yisrael.html

“This is a most difficult gezeira that was decided as a kapora for Am Yisrael” explained the rav, adding “These holy boys, the kedoshim, were selected as a kapora for the people. We were all awakened to do teshuvah, to do a tikun, to learn more Torah, to kedusha, tahara, and we call to soften the ‘Midas HaDin that has befallen us”.

The posek added “This is a very big עת רצון, an opportune time, a time when the three kedoshim are sacrificed, a churban Beis HaMikdash, a kapora for all, an awakening and a chizuk that began on the Shabbos on which we learned about the spies (Parshas Korach) until Parsha Balak where we are taught הֶן-עָם לְבָדָד יִשְׁכֹּן, וּבַגּוֹיִם לֹא יִתְחַשָּׁב (lo, it is a people that shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations),

This makes us unique from all the nations and together, united, we will march forward to greet Moshiach”.

The rav then turned to security forces with a message, telling them

“We are Jews, Bnei Yisrael, we are sons of HKBH and remember His Name and he will be there to assist”.

An amazing leaked video surfaced from Middle Eastern media showing where the ISIS is sending victims to their final resting place in what seems to be the bottomless pit. And it was all caught on video

Here’s the story.

When most of the ISIS fighters in Deir al-Zour moved to Raqqa, which is now a black province in every sense of the word, countless executions take place continually and families never get to collect the bodies of their loved ones. In one incident, the ISIS taped an execution of three men, and when the film was leaked, it was a heart-wrenching experience to the families of the victims.

The people finally found out where the countless bodies were sent. Thirteen kilometers south of Raqqa is an empty wilderness called Ghota (Canyon-pit). There one finds terrorists dumping the lifeless bodies of their victims in this deep gorge which funneled the bodies into what seems to be a huge endless pit:

Civilians and fighters alike are having a change of mind about

the so-called revolution share how grim life has turned out to be. Al-Hayat, a Middle East news secretly met a number of civilians in Raqqa and reported that many of the Raqqa city features have been painted black, to match the color of the ISIS banner of the Caliphate. Women, like the Ka’ba shrine, wear black from head to toe, and you can’t ignore how many foreign fighters there are. They are called the muhajirin [immigrants] and come mostly from Chechnya. They are in Raqqa with their families and can be recognized because they are taller than the locals and look different.

The immigrant fighters have a long story. The civilians each told their stories, or what they witnessed, with the immigrants. They all said that the population won’t remain silent for long. The pressure on the civilians will lead to an explosion, according to “Mohammad,” 24. He and his family fled Deir al-Zour. He said, “[The following story] summarizes what the immigrants think about the people of the city and the region. One day, when I was at an internet cafe filled with Tunisian fighters, [I overheard one fighter say] to his friend via Skype to come do jihad in Syria, especially in Raqqa, where food is abundant and where there are many empty homes, and where the women are pretty, and ‘the men are cowards.’”

Chechen immigrants have their own story. Many of them came to Syria with the intensification of fighting, and most joined Jabhat al-Nusra or ISIS. In the words of more than one person we met, Chechen immigrants have special privileges over others because they came with all their family members. And that can be noticed as you walk Raqqa’s streets.

Rim, a Raqqa local said that, “Chechen immigrants are living a luxurious life. You always see them in the city’s restaurants and they buy food in large quantities. Their children keep buying chocolate, especially foreign chocolate, such as Mars or Snickers, which cost 100 or more Syrian pounds. The Chechens also have the latest technology in mobile phones, computers, computer tablets and many others.”

Defecting from ISIS equals death
The immigrant’s life isn’t always easy. His jihad in Syria could also be a curse. Recently, many immigrants were executed in the field, according to Raqqa locals. Not a week goes by without someone being executed. There have been as many as five executions per week. The charges against them range from disbelief in God to leaving the “group” [ISIS]. But according to the locals, executions are for those who defected from ISIS after they saw how it truly functions.

FEMALE GENITLE MUTILATION OF GIRL

FEMALE GENITLE MUTILATION OF GIRL

“They leap over the walls so as not [to] give us a chance to correct matters,” said “Sarah” to Al-Hayat about what’s happening in her high school, where ISIS conducts foot or car patrols to check that women are wearing Islamic attire. ISIS fighters jump over the walls of the schools to surprise the girls and to catch those not complying. Sarah added, “The patrol consists of two teams, the first consists of men who jump over the school’s wall, and the second consists of women who enter through the main door. They are mostly the wives of immigrant fighters and they enter the school armed with machine guns and beat up students breaking [ISIS] laws. In many cases, the students are arrested along with the teachers and the school director as punishment for violating ISIS laws. They are released hours later after being humiliated by the patrol elements.”

Men also get punished

Every year, according to United Nations reports, at lest 5,000 women worldwide are killed for reasons of “honor” that relate to matters of modesty and obeyance, and the number of victims of honor violence, which can involve beatings, acid attacks, or locking a woman in her home, is literally incalculable. http://www.barenakedislam.com/2013/10/09/canada-muslims-protest-that-muslim-honor-killings-being-called-honor-killings-is-racist-what-race-is-islam/

Men are not better off than the women under the rule of the black state. Men are harassed in different ways. The man is the first and last one responsible for the actions of the women of his family. Men are often punished as a result of the behavior of a girl within the family, such as lack of commitment to Islamic dress. Men are often given several lashes in the public squares for violating some Islamic law. Anyone who smokes or sells cigarettes is given a punishment ranging from having his store closed to being given several lashes.

We entered Raqqa at prayer time. ISIS has forced everyone to pray, and all shops have to close at prayer time and all men must go to mosque, or a group of shop owners can put a prayer mat and perform their prayers in congregation.

“Khaled,” 40, told Al-Hayat, “Many men don’t actually pray but pretend to be doing so in front of ISIS patrols that roam the city. … Many worshipers pray without ablution to avoid harm. Many shop owners lock themselves in their shops by lowering the iron doors till prayer time ends. However, ISIS patrols found out, so ISIS now goes to the shops and sometimes pulls their owners out and forces them to perform prayer.”

“Mohammad,” a Raqqa resident and a friend of Khaled, said, “One mosque preacher who is of Tunisian origin said during a Friday sermon that the reason the people are being forced to pray is so that they get admitted to paradise. Then a worshiper said that some are praying while doing a lot of things forbidden by God. The Tunisian imam answered: We will take you to paradise, even if we have to drag you in chains on the way there.”

Many throughout Syria have become aware of ISIS’s religious strictness. ISIS conducts tests on those stopped at checkpoints. They ask them questions about how many rak’aas [kneels] are performed for each prayer time and the way one is supposed to pray. At first we doubted that, but then we saw it ourselves in Azaz in the Aleppo countryside. In Azaz, an ISIS fighter asked the driver the number of rak’aas for each prayer. The driver answered wrongly, so the Chechen ISIS fighter asked the driver to get out of the car, took him to a nearby field, explained to him how to pray properly, and didn’t let the driver go till after praying four full rak’aas.

This is life under true Islam.

Any questions?

Congressman says ISIS will use southern border to enter US: Muslim prayer rug found on Arizona border

Could this be another reason Obama doesn’t want photos in the immigrant camps?

Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX) told CBS’s local Dallas Fort Worth affiliate he believes that ISIS will use Texas’s southern border to enter the United States. “Of course the way they would come to the United States would be through the porous border with Mexico. The drug cartels will bring people into the country no matter who they are — for money,” says Poe.

It appears we can add regarding the merit the boys had for 18 days – words that Rav Yaakov Roza Shlit”a, the rabbi of the Zaka Organization, said in his role as rabbi of the Pathological Institute in the Institute for Law Health in Abu Kabir:

For the first time in my life, I came across such an occurrence where bodies that were lying in the field in hot weather for 18 days and no worms were found on their bodies. I can attest that on the 3 Kedoshim, no maggots overtook them. Besides the gunshot wounds, there were no signs of abuse or injuries. According to the doctors at the Institute for Law Health, there is no scientific explanation for this phenomenon.

Translation:
Our G-D and G-d of our fathers:
Who chooses King David and his descendants; who chooses songs and praises. Please turn to me in mercy and accept the Psalms I am going to say as if King David himself were saying them, and let his merit protect us.
There is merit in every verse of the Psalms and in every word, in their letters, vowels and notes and in all the holy names spelled out by the first and last letters of each Hebrew word.
Let this merit stand in our favor to atone for our sins and transgressions, cut down our enemies and accusers on High, and destroy all the thorns and thistles surrounding the Supernal Rose. Send down blessing from Your exalted place to all the levels of our soul and spirit, to purify us from our sins, forgive our transgressions and atone for our rebellion, just as You forgave King David who recited these psalms before You. “And G-D will cause your sin to pass away and you will not die” (Samuel II 12:13).
Do not take us from this world before our time. Give us a full life throughout our span of seventy years so that we can make amends for all the wrong we have done.
May the merit of King David protect us, and be patient with us until we return to You in perfect repentance.
Grant us blessing from Your treasury of open-handed generosity, as it is written: “I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy” (Exodus 33:19). Just as we sing before You in this world, grant us the privilege of singing before You, G-D, in the World to Come.
Through our recital of the psalms, let pleasant song break forth with rejoicing and exultation. Let glory be given to Israel; and splendor and beauty shall be in the House of G-D. Bring it speedily in our days, Amen.
Before reciting the Tikkun HaKlali, it is good to say the following:

Translation:
In saying these ten psalms I am binding myself to all the true Tzaddikim in this generation and all the true Tzaddikim who have departed, “the holy ones who are in the earth”, and especially our holy Rebbe, Tzaddik, foundation of the world, the “flowing brook, source of wisdom”, Rabbi Nachman the son of Feiga, (may his merit protect us,) who revealed this remedy.
Come let us sing to G-D, let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us sing to Him joyously in song. For GOD is a great GOD and a great King over all gods (Psalms 95:1-3).
I prepare my mouth to give thanks and praise to my Creator, to unify the Holy One, blessed-be-he, and His Shechinah in awe and love, through the Hidden and Concealed One, in the name of all Israel.

The Phone Call

From Israel Matzav 22June2014 http://israelmatzav.blogspot.co.il/2014/06/the-phone-call.html

This was sent out by Rabbi Yitzchok Eisenman of Passaic, New Jersey to his Short Vort list on Friday morning. Rabbi Eisenman and I have known each other for 35 years (Hat Tip: Debbie R, who has known me even longer).

Sorry to bother you on Erev Shabbos, however, I just got off the phone with *Mrs. Rachelli (née Sprecher) Frankel, mother of Naftali Frankel (Yaakov Naftali ben Rachel Devorah) *one of the three boys abducted by Hamas last week.

The phone call lasted about 7 or 8 minutes; however, I am still shaking from the experience.

Mrs. Frankel related to me how she received a text message from her son Naftali last Thursday night at about 9:30 PM informing her that he would be home soon.

Having heard that he was on his way home and thinking that this Thursday night would be the same as any other Thursday evening, she replied via text that she and his father would be going to sleep and they would see him on Friday morning; no different than any other weekend when he came home from Yeshiva.

They were awakened in the middle of the night with the news that their son was missing and was abducted.

And from that day on all she and her family have been attempting to do is ‘stay sane’.

From that phone call in the middle of last Thursday night her life has been thrown into a confused and painful existence.

From a mother concerned with the normal mundane things of life, she has been transformed into a one woman spokesperson and representative of all Jewish women and of their love and concern for their children. She told me how the ‘achdus’ (unity) she has witnessed has been ‘amazing’.

She specifically told me how both the Chareidi and secular communities have been unbelievable in their outpouring of support and caring. She told me that numerous secular Jews have contacted her to tell her that although they have not put on Tefillin for years, this week they put on Tefillin!

Evan Yair Lapid, the secular Minister of Finance said, “I haven’t prayed in six years. I haven’t gone into a synagogue since my son’s bar mitzvah. When I heard what had happened to your sons, I turned my house upside down to look for my grandfather’s prayer book. I sat down and prayed.”

Mrs. Frankel related to me how people from all over the country have informed her of acts of kindness and about learning they have taken upon themselves for the sake of the boys.

She ended the conversation by saying, “I have never seen such ‘achdus’ as displayed by all Jews of all stripes as I have witnessed this last week.”

She then paused and added, “You know, if Hamas- whose mission is to destroy us- would have realized how much unity and how much harmony they have generated among us, they would have never kidnapped the boys in the first place.”

She begged me to tell all of you to continue your acts of Tefillah and kindness and mitzvohs on behalf of the boys.

She pleaded with me to spread the message among my congregants and among Americans (Jew and non-Jew) of the importance of remaining united and focused on the task of doing whatever we can do to keep the pressure on to get the boys released.

She then added, “You never know which act of kindness, which Chessed, which person saying Tehillim and which Tefillah offered by which person is going to be the one to finally tip the scales in Heaven in their favor. Please, please tell everyone to continue. Please tell them to remain unified and to continue their mitzvohs until I can once again hug my Naftali.”

He voice became weak and I could hear and sense the tears swelling in her eyes.

“Shabbat Shalom” she whispered, and hung up.

As I placed the phone down, I thought to myself, ‘She said “Shabbat Shalom” which means a Shabbos of Shalom, of peace; indeed, she is correct, that is exactly what we all need: a Shabbos of Shalom.’

May all Jewish mothers- including (and especially) the mothers of the three boys- be privileged to hug their children this Shabbos.

Bring Back Our Boys

Why the Kidnapping?

29june2014 http://lazerbrody.typepad.com/lazer_beams/2014/06/why-the-kidnapping.html

Animals react with instinct, for they lack the power of reason. If a dog is hit with a stick, it will growl at or bite the stick. Yet, the stick is not responsible for hurting the dog; the person who wields the stick is.

Much of the Israeli media has been blaming the police and the secret services here for all types of operative breakdowns that enabled the tragic kidnapping of the three Gush-Etzion yeshiva students, Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaer and Naftali Frenkel. So who is responsible?

Hashem is. The first principle of our faith as brought down by the Rambam is that Hashem alone, did, does and will do every deed. So, with emuna in mind, Hashem is responsible for the kidnapping and Hashem is also responsible for the three young men’s safe return home from captivity, wherever they are. Hashem is responsible for the success of our security forces and is also responsible for their failure. Knowing this important fact, we no longer waste time on useless blame games but instead ask Hashem why He is doing this to us. By soul-searching and uprooting the spiritual reason that led to the kidnapping, we are doing the best we possibly can to bring Eyal, Gilad and Naftali home.

These three young men are absolute tzaddikim and are suffering for the sins of the Jewish People. This past year has been exemplified by unprecedented intramural Jewish hate, spearheaded by self-serving populist politicians. Hashem can’t stand dissenion among His children. Yet, since the three yeshiva boys were kidnapped 17 days ago, all talk of dissension has ceased. The entire nation has come together. If the Hamas (or whoever else committed the crime of the kidnapping) knew that they’d contribute so much to Jewish unity in the Land of Israel, they’d have never allowed this to happen.

Today begins the new month of Tammuz. The notorious Three Weeks begin in another 17 days. Now is the time to love and accept one another and to uproot the ugly sinat chinam, the senseless intramural hate and dissension that caused both the Destruction of our Holy Temple and the kidnapping of our three cherished young men. G-d willing, with ahavat Yisrael, love and tolerance of one another, we’ll get them back together with the bonus of Moshiach and our rebuilt Holy Temple, soon, amen.

June 29, 2014: Kidnapped Teen’s Mother ‘Overwhelmed’ at Tel Aviv Mega Rally

Tens of thousands of Israelis gathered in a central Tel Aviv square on Sunday night to draw attention to the plight of three Israeli teenagers who were abducted near Hevron earlier this month.

The crowd packed Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square, holding Israeli flags and posters of the three missing teens. Singers performed for the crowd, while politicians and relatives of the youths addressed the gathering.

The mothers of the teens each told the crowd that the nation is united in praying for the safety of their teens. “They know that we will never give up trying to bring them home,” said Rachelle Fraenkel, one of the mothers

30June2014 https://www.mpaths.com/2014/06/there-are-no-words.html

There are no words…

There Are No Words to express our pain, our sorrow, our anger.  Our boys, the boys who united the Jewish People, have been brutally murdered.  May Hashem avenge their blood.

Tonight is Gimmel Tammuz, the date of the hishtalkus of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.  The Rebbe once said “We can only face evil with faith.” Even now? Especially now!

Should we be angry, of course we should be.  But we must find the path of channeling our anger, our sorrow, our pain into our connection with our Father in Heaven.  If there is one lesson we learned from the Rebbe, it’s that everything can be turned into a drive for good.

Good does not mean turning the other cheek nor trying to make peace with murderous barbarians.  It does mean remembering these Jewish boys, building in their name, doing good in their help.  Helping others, giving charity, doing a mitzvah.

But for now we mourn.  Our dead are lying before us.  We cry out, when will the cup of tears be full?  We try to console the inconsolable.

Already we hear the cries to act with restraint, but we ask where was the restraint of the murderers?  We hear cries to not cause collective punishment, but were the boys not a collective punished for the perceived honor of the murderers?  When we are kind to the cruel we are cruel to the kind.

ENOUGH!  We do not call for revenge, revenge is for the Hand of Hashem.  BUT WE DO SCREAM OUT FOR WISDOM IN DEALING WITH BARBARIANS, MURDERERS, THOSE WHO DO NOT VALUE LIFE.

Ribono Shel Olam, we call out – is it not enough?  Bring us your righteous Moshiach now and end this unbelievable evil.

There are no words, but some have spilled forth with our tears.  May their families be comforted among the mourners of Tziyon and Yerushalayim.  And may Hashem avenge their blood.

[For those who did not hear – the 3 boys kidnapped over 2 weeks ago in Israel by “Palestinians” from Hebron were found this afternoon murdered.]

The Martyrs’ Holy Bodies

06July2014 http://lazerbrody.typepad.com/lazer_beams/2014/07/three-true-tzaddikim.html

Rabbi Yaacov Rozha shlit’a is the head rabbi of Zaka and a member of the Chief Rabbinical Council in Israel. He is also the rabbi of the National Pathological Institute in Abu Kabir, near Tel Aviv. He was present when the bodies of our three young martyrs Eyal Yifrach, Naftali Frankel and Gilad Shaer, may Hashem avenge their holy blood, were identified.

The three were killed immediately after the kidnapping. Their bodies were buried in a shallow grave on a sun-drenched hill where the temperatures averaged in the nineties (F) during the 18 days until the bodies were discovered. Despite this, the pathologists – to their utter amazement – did not find a single worm on any of the three bodies. Rabbi Rozha, who unfortunately has seen hundreds of dead bodies in his career, declared, “I am a witness! Other than the gunshot wounds, there was no other damage to the bodies”. Eighteen days in a shallow grave in the hot Israeli summer sun and no decomposition – what a miracle and testimony!

The pathologists agreed that there is no scientific explanation for this phenomenon. They’re right – the answer is in the Gemara (See first chapter Derech Eretz Zuta, Bava Basra 17a). The Reishit Chochma concludes that worms and maggots have no power over the deceased bodies of the true tzaddikim (see Shaar Hakedusha, chapter four).

With the above in mind, Hashem is showing us the Eyal, Naftali and Gilad were not only martyrs, but they were true tzaddikim as well.

If Hashem had to take such prodigious and pure tzaddikim from our midst, then imagine how great of an atonement the Jewish People needed. We had better get to work immediately – the four key words are teshuva, emuna, Torah and of course, unity.
