The War Does Not Exempt You From Cleaning Your Room, Young Man

http://www.preoccupiedterritory.com/the-war-does-not-exempt-you-from-cleaning-your-room-young-man/

By Mom

I know we’re spending more of our time than usual in the bomb shelter, but let me be clear: this war does not exempt you from cleaning your room, young man. I will hear no more arguments.

Yes, there is tension in the air, and the very real possibility of getting injured, or worse, by an incoming rocket, but you listen to me and you listen to me well: you will tidy up that disaster area of yours or rockets will be the least of your worries. Now get to it.

The Home Front Command was very clear on this: we are to continue living our lives as usual, going about our regular routine. That means you pick up every last bit of dirty laundry, every game piece, and every accessory. Then you sweep up the dust. I’ll not have you thinking that the risk of flying shrapnel means it’s just dandy to leave your filthy underwear all over the floor. I get a conniption fit every time I pass by that room of yours, mister, and that’s a far more pressing issue than any Fajr-5 or M-75.

Don’t whine to me about not having enough time because of having to run to the shelter. You seem to have plenty of time for your texting, your games, and your shows. Instead of posting memes about Hamas on Facebook, spend a few minutes picking up after yourself. A clean room does wonders for how you feel, and when you come back from the bomb shelter you’ll feel welcomed by it.

At least you have a room! Treat it with respect! Do you know there are people out there whose homes have been destroyed? They would do anything to have a room to clean! And you sit there among your piles of who-knows-what and act like rooms are a dime a dozen. Well, that’s no way for a person to behave. How would you like it if a rocket came down and blew apart this sty of yours you call a room?

You’re darn tootin’ I’d make you clean up afterwards.

The Learning is the Protection

24july2014 Lecture by Rav Yishai Tokayer

Everyone heard yesterday one of the Bockerim downstairs. He has a brother fighting in Gaza.

One of the Bocker (Single Yesiva Student) downstairs has Brother fighting in Gaza and a lot of friends also fighting there. His brother said:
This boy downstairs was a fighter also in the Army, was released a year ago maybe more. If you want to go fight there they will take him right away. He did Tzuvah 9Return to G-d), he is not sure, should I go? He is confused here it is so calm sitting and learning. But over there People are getting killed there. Should I go and help them to fight?

His brother is not religious yet . his brother called his mother 2 day ago Telling them what is going on.
They have a group of 11 Tanks. It is very crazy war.
Hamas is sending them Donkey with explosives on them. All kinds of crazy thing.

The commander of each tank his head outside. It is very dangerous.

There are 2 tanks, one on his right and one on his left both commanders were killed there was sniper shootings. Very crazy fighting
His brother is not religious, but in the Tank Commanderś  head during the whole fighting, In his head his bother sees his (Yesiva Studentś) learning.
his bother is a tank gunner very difficult, he broke several fingers. his brothers learning is the protection.
They are fighting constantly not sleeping, fighting 24 hours, sleeping an hour..

the real power is the sperial power.that is protection of the place they have no koach with out us learning.
Many rockets shooting
We are the protectors not the Army. The real power is the spiritual power. The physical power is the result.
Every word we learn is the protection.

28July2014 2014 http://dixieyid.blogspot.co.il/2014/07/translation-of-colonel-ofer-winters.html

9 July 2014
We have been bestowed a great privilege to command and serve in the Givati Brigade at this time. History has chosen us to be on the cutting edge of the war against the terrorist enemy, the “one of Gaza” [cf. Yehoshua 13:3] who curses, reviles, and defames the G-d of the battalions of Israel. [Cf. Dovid’s encounter with Golias, the Plishti, Shmuel I 17:10, 26, 36, 45.] Let us prepare and ready ourselves for this moment when we accept upon ourselves this mission with a sense of agency and complete humility and with a readiness to put ourselves in danger or give up our lives in order to protect our families, our nation, and our birthplace.

Let us work with resolve and strength and with initiative, strategy, and hard work in our encounter with the enemy. We will do everything we can to fulfill our mission to cut down the enemy and to remove fear from the people of Israel. Our credo is “We do not return before the mission is done.” Let us work and do everything we can to bring back our boys in peace by utilizing every means at our disposal and with any effort that is required.

I am relying on you, on each and every one of you, to do your duty in this spirit, the spirit of Jewish warriors who go out in in front of the camp. “The spirit which is called ‘Givati.’”  I lift up my eyes to Heaven and say with you, “Shma Yisrael, Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad.” May Hashem, the G-d of Israel, bring success in our mission in which we stand to do battle for the sake of Your people Israel against the enemy who curses Your Name.

In the name of the warriors of the IDF generally, and in particular, in the name of the warriors and commanders of our Brigade, may Hashem act and fulfill in us that which it says in the pasuk, “Hashem your G-d goes out with you to do battle with your enemies for you to save you” [Devarim 20:4], and let us say Amen.

“Together, and only together, will we be victorious.”

Givati Commander Ofer Winter talks about the ananei kavod protecting the soldiers

31July2014 http://lifeinisrael.blogspot.co.il/2014/07/givati-commander-ofer-vinter-talks.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+blogspot/yTdM+%28Life+in+Israel%29

This commander of Givati, Ofer Winter, who got criticized for his pre-battle letter to his soldiers in which he said they will be fighting God’s battle and should say Shema Yisrael when going out to battle, is something special.

NRG excerpts part of an interview Winter has given to Mishpacha magazine (I assume the Hebrew edition – you probably should go out and buy this week’s edition to see the whole thing). As well, Ynet has some video talking to Winter and more of his comments on the battle.

Givati Commander Ofer Winter

Givati Commander Ofer Winter

Winter said that now, during this time of war, when the desire to join the armed forces is strong, now it must be stressed that what is really needed for the nation is that the yeshiva students should be learning Torah even more and with more force. It is the Torah that protects the nation of Israel more than anything else. Whoever can sit and learn – must do so now.Winter also describes how his forces have seen miracles in their battles. One story he relates is when they were fighting in Hirbat Hizaah, Wniter says he saw something he had not seen during his entire career in the army to date. Wnter describes that they had decided to attack the area in the week hours of the morning, before daybreak, so the enemy would not notice them. The extraction team arrived at the location on time, but the fighters arrived late. Winter says they did not know what to do, as the sky was already starting to light up and the soldiers were becoming visible, yet they needed to attack. Suddenly, Winter says, a cloud cover came over them and protected them. Clouds of glory (ananei kavod). Suddenly it covered us, the fighters, a heavy fog, that stayed there throughout the attack.Nobody saw us. Only after the houses targeted were destroyed and there was no longer any danger to the soldiers did the fog disperse. Exactly as it says “For Hashem will go with you to save you”.

There is more on NRG, and I assume there will be more in the full interview in Mishpacha.

It is with the increasing number of people like Ofer Winter in command positions in the Israeli army that they IDF will become not just Israeli but more Jewish in nature.

Emuna News Analysis: Hamas, the Weed that Grows Back

The Garden of Emuna – English New Expanded Edition!!!

“By way of emuna, life in this world is more beautiful, and…the entire world is like a blossoming garden.” This is a practical guide to life. Discover the power of emuna and powerful tools for dealing with life’s challenges. By Rabbi Shalom Arush, translated by Rabbi Lazer Brody. Paperback, 292 information packed pages. ISBN: 56-1024

Tonight is the start of the notorious “Three Weeks”, which commemorates the difficult things that happened to our people throughout history, including the destruction of both Holy Temples in Jerusalem.

The current war is a message from Hashem that necessitates some national soul-searching.

Despite the massive IDF airstrikes on Gaza, Hamas is far from down and certainly not out. Defying all logic, after every round of hostilities with Israel, Hamas only gets stronger. Meanwhile, even between conflicts, the south of Israel has been bearing the brunt of intermittent rocket attacks that making living a normal life impossible.

We periodically smash Gaza, but like a weed that’s not completely uprooted, Hamas rears its ugly head soon again. Look at recent history:

“Operation Cast Lead” began on Dec. 27, 2008 and lasted for 3 weeks. The ceasefire lasted on and off for four years, and then hostilities broke out again with “Operation Pillar of Defense” that began on Nov. 14, 2012 and lasted for 8 days. Yet, since Hamas wasn’t uprooted – indeed, it got much stronger: we only received a 20-month break until the current “Operation Protective Shield” began on July 8, 2014. So far, it has lasted 8 days, but the end is not yet in sight.

Why does Hamas continue to get stronger? In the Arab world, anyone who fights Israel is a hero. But that’s not the reason. Without going into too much detail, our sages (Gaon of Vilna, Rabbi Chaim Vital, and others of saintly and blessed memory) warned us that in the end of days, Ishmael will be our menace, and this last exile before Moshiach will be Galut Ishmael, characterized by suicide warfare, as we see with the shahidim of today.

Hashem continues to do phenomenal miracles for us. What are the chances that a GRAD rocket make a direct hit on a gas station, and no one gets killed or the 35,000 L gasoline tanker doesn’t explode? Impossible? One in a zillion? It happened in Ashdod this past Friday.

Yet, a reverse miracle is happening in Gaza. Despite the massive IDF bombings, Hamas keeps firing at us, as we here in the south of Israel can testify. Where does Hamas get its power from?

From Hashem – Hamas is a stick in Hashem’s hands. As long as our political and military leadership fail to understand this and to come to proper conclusions, the cycle of hostilities will just keep going.

Hashem has put the Israeli Government in a bind: At this point, a ceasefire with Hamas is pointless. More aerial bombings of the Gaza Strip won’t produce lasting results either. And, a ground invasion of Gaza would be a gift for Hamas, giving them a tangible opportunity to inflict damage on our troops, Heaven forbid. Not only that, but the Israeli Government is not even clear on the objectives it wants to achieve by way of “Operation Defensive Shield.”

So how does Israel stop the Hamas and the rocket fire?

Israel must uproot the spiritual cause that gives Hamas its strength. We must make a peace-treaty with Hashem. That means returning to Him with full and dedicated emuna. It means Torah and teshuva. Every Jew who reinforces his Judaism is a cogent weapon against Hamas. Every woman who decides to dress more modestly – despite the summer heat – is exhibiting the dedication of an elite commando in Hashem’s army. This is not just “nice talk” – it’s the solid spiritual truth. Deny it, and forget about defeating our enemies. They’ll only come back stronger.

Hashem sent the Hamas and Hashem can make all their missiles blow up in their face. But, we must do our part. Hashem wants to send Moshiach and He wants us to get stronger – spiritually – and cling to Him. Once we do, it’s a knockout for the Hamas, soon, amen!

A Strong Home-Front, IDF Ground Assault in Gaza

Iron-Dome-missiles-intercepting-7Hamas-rockets

Ashdod, Friday morning, 10:05 AM – no, this is not Star Wars, but Iron Dome missiles intercepting a barrage of 7 Hamas rockets from Gaza Last night, the IDF began a coordinated ground operation in Gaza. Having discovered the terrorist tunnel near Sufa, which could have ended in a devastating tragedy Heaven forbid, the government and the army were left with no choice but to do the utmost to free our citizenry from the threat of terrorist tunnels. As such, the combat engineers are playing a critical role in the assault. Our soldiers are performing a task that dangerous beyond description – we owe them our non-stop prayers and support. May Hashem protect them and give them success!Since midnight, we’ve had 5 separate missile attacks here in Ashdod, whereas each attack consisted of multiple missiles fired at us. With Hashem’s mercy, no one has been hurt.If you or your children heard just one alarm siren, or the crash and explosion of just one missile, not only would you remember it in your mind always, but you could appreciate what our families are going through.

It’s easy for the western politicians to tell Israel to restrain itself. If you live in America, then “war” refers to some faraway place like Afghanistan or Vietnam.

Israel has no such luxury. Here in the south of Israel, the front lines on the Gaza border are less than a half-hour’s drive by car for hundreds of thousands of people. The Home-Front is therefore extremely close to the front.

There’s a vitally important principle that no country at war can ignore: a capable and effective military is neutralized if the home-front is weak. Therefore, a strong home-front with a strong morale is vital for victory. Nothing keeps both the army and the home-front strong like emuna.

Emuna Outreach, now under the auspices of Rabbi Shalom Arush shlit’a, gives top priority to strengthening our home-front. We have been distributing emuna books and CDs all over the south of Israel, to civilians and IDF soldiers alike.

The outdoor market of Ashdod has in the past been a favorite Friday-morning Hamas target, particularly because of the concentration of people there. Rebbe Nachman of Breslev promised that anywhere his book Likutei Moharan is, there won’t be fire or catastrophe. Emuna Outreach has already fitted quite a few armored vehicles in the IDF with Likutei Moharan. Earlier today, we made sure that bomb shelters and local merchants received the book as well, thanks to your generous support. Everyone who received the book was truly moved and tremendously grateful. I was asked to relay a ton of blessings to our contributors.

You can do your part in the war effort too. Your donation helps strengthen Israel’s soldiers and civilians under fire. Your assistance in spreading emuna wins wars. Please donate with an open heart to Emuna Outreach – you can do so by clicking the “Donate” button on the top left-hand toolbar of this site. This is a tremendous mitzva and a direct contribution to the war effort and to the full redemption of our people. Thanks, Shabbat Shalom G-d bless always!

30,000 Meals a Day among Outpouring of Support for IDF

31 July2014 From /matzav.com http://matzav.com/30000-meals-a-day-among-outpouring-of-support-for-idf

Doron Elbaz, who owns a farm near the Gaza border, told his kids: “Let’s go buy some lemons and make lemonade for the soldiers driving by.” Soon, his lemonade stand became the focal point for donations that began pouring in from across the country – food, clothing, toiletries, shampoo, baked goods.

Joined by a few volunteers, he started making 1,000 meals a day for soldiers, then 2,000 meals, then 5,000 – as donations, and requests from IDF units, poured in. Now 250 volunteers are cooking 30,000 meals per day. A dozen masseurs have set up tables to offer free massages. A barber was offering free haircuts and free shaves. There are a number of similar “rest stops” for soldiers at many intersections along the Gaza border.

At 2:30 A.M., Jews Blast Shema Prayer at Muslim Neighborhood

Tired of waking up to muezzin calls on loudspeakers in the middle of the night, Jews mount an aural counterattack.

By Gil Ronen 27July2014  http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/183405#.U9U9Fbuk2b8

Tired of waking up to muezzin calls on loudspeakers in the middle of the night, Jews from Armon Hanatziv in Jerusalem mounted an aural counterattack.

Armed with loudspeakers, they blasted the “Shema” incantation (from the ‘Hear O Israel’ prayer) in the direction of the Muslim Arab neighborhood of Tzur Baher. They reportedly did so at about 2:30 a.m.

Video of the Jewish counterattack garnered enthusiastic reactions on Facebook.

Jews all over Israel find themselves routinely harassed by noise pollution from Muslim neighborhoods in recent years. This less-known “intifada” by Arabs involves fitting loudspeakers on minarets in mosques – which for centuries made do with unamplified muezzin calls for prayer.

The Jerusalem Municipality reportedly embarked on a process to investigate and limit the noise pollution by local mosques, in January. According to the move, initiated by nationalist Councilman Aryeh King, the prayer call of 200 mosques in the eastern part of Jerusalem will be measured to see if the decibel level violates the law.

King made the fight against Muslim noise pollution a priority when he was elected last November. At the time he stated “just like it’s forbidden for us (Jews) to make loud noises after 12 at night it will be forbidden for them.”

200,000 shekels have reportedly been allocated for the pilot program, in which the volume of the prayer calls emanating from two mosques in the south of the city will be measured. Mosques that disturb the public peace with their amplified prayer call will be put on a “black list” by the city.

Mosques on the list will be ordered to turn their loudspeakers to face the center of the Arab neighborhoods and villages, to try and prevent disturbances to the rest of the city. If that step isn’t enough, a technological solution will be installed to screen and reduce the noise dramatically.

Elephant safari during Tzeva Adom alarm  הפילים בספארי בעת אזעקה

Sirens wailed in the Tel Aviv suburbs yesterday – look how the elephants in the Ramat Gan Safari reacted. With sensitivity to their young that the terrorists should learn, the elephants make a protective circle around their young. Check this out

From Rabbi Lazer Brody’s Lazer Beams website:

“Allah Does Miracles for Them”

10JUly2014 http://lazerbrody.typepad.com/lazer_beams/2014/07/allah-does-miracles-for-them.html

A foreign correspondent was interviewing one of the Hamas commanders and asked him for his reaction, that Hamas fired hundreds of missiles in the last 24 hours, yet most of them were either intercepted by the Iron Dome of fell into open areas. The Hamas terrorist answered, “What can I do if Allah does miracles for them? But, the minute Allah gets angry at them, wait and see what will happen…”

Every page of Gemara we learn, every Mishna, every Psalm we say, every Challa a woman bakes, every coin that’s given to a needy person, every word of prayer, every reinforcement of emuna, every effort at enhancing unity and every other mitzva that a man, woman or child does only fans the bright flames of Hashem’s love for us. Inshalla (Arabic for G-d willing), Hashem’s love for us is eternal and will only grow! But, we must do our part. The more our camp is holy (Deuteronomy 23:15), the more we assure that Hashem’s Divine Presence hovers in our midst, for the Guardian of Israel never slumbers.

Be strong, Israel, and don’t fear!

Fly El-Al and be safe

Hamas warns airlines not to fly to Ben Gurion

Sophisticated anti-missile systems installed on commercial aircraft

Hamas says that it is targeting Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport and is warning airlines not to fly there.

“In the light of Israel’s … attacks on the residents of Gaza Strip … The armed wing of Hamas movement has decided to respond to the Israeli aggression and we warn you against carrying out flights to Ben-Gurion airport, which will be one of our targets today because it also hosts a military air base,” the statement said.

The terror group claimed earlier that it had already fired at least one rocket towards the airport on Friday but militant rockets, which are largely inaccurate, are not known to have landed in or around the airport, Israel’s main international aerial gateway.

Several rockets from the Gaza Strip were fired toward the greater Tel Aviv area on Friday morning. The Iron Dome defense system intercepted three projectiles. No injuries were reported.

Incoming air traffic was halted from entering Israeli air space as sirens were sounded in the area, an airport spokesperson told The Jerusalem Post. Flight traffic was resumed as normal after the sirens subsided.

A spokesman for the Airports Authority said that a siren had sounded at Ben-Gurion and that all activity had stopped for about ten minutes, but that the siren was part of a general alert in the Tel Aviv area and not a direct threat to the airport.

El Al planes are protected by the MUSIC-DIRCM anti-missile system and have been protected by that system or by Flight Guard since 2006. Other airlines decided that the anti-missile system for passenger planes is ‘too expensive.’ If God forbid there is a ‘successful’ attack, or even one that comes close, my guess is that we will likely see a lot of foreign airlines stop flying here for a while.

What could go wrong?

Comment: Remember TWA Fight 800 which was shot down on July 17, 1996 by a Man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS or MPADS) are shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles (SAMs). They are typically guided weapons and are a threat to low-flying aircraft, especially helicopters.

Home Front Command Releases Updated Guidelines for Rocket Fire

Large gatherings, school activities banned in regions close to Gaza as Hamas continues to rain rockets on Israeli civilians.
By Tova Dvorin 18July2014
The Home Front Command has updated its guidelines for Israelis within rocket range on Friday, in light of increasing rocket fire from Hamas in Gaza and anticipated escalation due to the IDF ground offensive.

Within 40 kilometers of Gaza, including the Gaza belt, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Be’er Sheva, and the surrounding communities, all meetings or gatherings of 300 people or more have been banned – whether indoors or outdoors. This includes shopping centers and other entertainment venues.

All schools and camps have been suspended until further notice. Workplaces, however, have remained open without restrictions – except for agricultural or other outdoor projects, which have been closed in all areas within 3 kilometers of the Sha’ar HaNegev Region, as per the Regional Council.

Between 40-80 kilometers from Gaza, including the Shefela (Coastal region), Gush Dan (Tel Aviv and Central Israel), the Jerusalem area, Judea, Samaria, Beit Shemesh, Jerusalem, the Sharon region, the Jordan Valley, Emek Haefer, and all areas of the Negev more than 40 km from Gaza, the ban on large gatherings applies only to 1,000 people or more, and only then outdoors. There are no restrictions on gatherings in closed spaces; work, school, and other venues remain open.

Beyond 80 kilometers from Gaza – including Eilat, the Galilee, the Golan Heights, and the northern Shomron, businesses and other activities may proceed as usual.

Every Israeli is advised to enter bomb shelters or safe rooms immediately upon hearing sirens in every region, within the timeframe allotted to their geographic area.

  • If you are in a secure space it is desirable that you remain with other people, especially people you know who can create a supportive environment.
  • It is a good idea to notify a neighbor, relative or friend as well as the assistance providers in the Authorities of the presence of a handicapped person at this location, and to give them telephone numbers, e-mail and SMS addresses, etc where you can be reached.
  • It is recommended that you apply to a relevant organization, to a professional association with which you maintain ties, or to the municipal call center to ensure beforehand that there is someone who will be able to help you in time of need.
  • Prepare in advance all essential telephone and fax numbers, e-mail addresses and Internet support sites of contact persons.
  • For owners of mobile phones – ensure that the battery is fully charged and that the battery charger can be reached at all times.
  • You can call the service call center of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services (118) or the Local Authority (106) for the general community of handicapped and elderly residents

Preparation of the secure room

  • Select the secure space in advance in accordance with the instructions of Pikud Haoref and prepare the path to it in keeping with your needs and disability.
  • Clear away objects such as planters, various decorative objects, etc that might block or hinder your movement to and from the secure space.
  • Make sure that essential things and devices are in their permanent places, identified and easily accessible.
  • Equip the selected secure space with the special auxiliary devices you need, in your judgment, such as hearing aid, cleaning supplies and reserve batteries, television receiver with amplifier (if you have one) and power supply for the amplification system, fax machine with extra paper and spare ink cartridge, mobile phone for sending and receiving SMS messages, Zimunit (beeper) charger and computer batteries with Internet connection, multi-socket electric extension cord, writing tools and notebook, ID tag showing important information (such as “I read lips only”) and any warning systems you may have (such as baby-Minder system, warning of ringing telephone, fax, alarm, amplifier or blinking light indicating knocking on the door or ringing doorbell, emergency button, whistle or bell used to call for help).
  • Be sure that all devices and objects are within easy reach.
  • It is recommended that you equip the room with water (at least one liter per person), some food and a first-aid kit.
  • All Pikud Haoref instructions will be broadcast over the media. Ensure in advance that all communications devices in your secure space are in working order and locate them in a place with good reception.
  • Click here for instructions concerning what to do in case of an event.

For people with medical problems

  • In so far as possible, prepare medical documents signed by your treating physician that indicate the following: the state of your health, the medication you take including required dosage, list of regular tests you have to undergo, an extra prescription and any other information that may be relevant, such as dietary instructions, other doctors’ orders and Health Fund membership card.
  • Be sure you have a sufficient quantity of medicines and take care to prepare a list of times at which you must not take them.
  • Make sure to prepare any equipment you need, such as insulin syringe, oxygen, etc.

Preparations for people who are home-bound

An extended period in the house or secure space may result in attacks of anxiety and stress, which may negatively impact your own function and that of your family members in an emergency. As a rule we recommend that you prepare a family emergency plan, including games, conversation and other activities that will help the family to cope with the challenges and difficulties accompanying an extended emergency situation.

For the deaf and hearing impaired

For the blind and visually impaired

  • Organize the secure space and ensure that it affords maximum accessibility and convenience.
  • Remove any objects that may interfere with unlimited mobility.
  • Prepare a personal identification card including first name and family name, ID number, name of health fund and treating physician, name of accompanying caregiver, list of medications, blood type, special needs, allergies, critical medical information and telephone numbers of family members and friends.
  • In the secure space prepare guide dog equipment and important personal equipment.
  • For additional information, you may contact the Rehabilitation Section, Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services at Tel 02-6708181 or Fax 02-6703646.

For people with limited mobility

  • Choose a secure space appropriate for the nature of your disability so that when you hear a siren or the “tzeva adom” broadcast alarm you will be able to reach it in safety and within the time specified in the Pikud Haoref instructions. If you need more time to reach the secure space than that specified in the instructions, either choose a different secure space or make preparations in the secure space that will allow you to sleep in the secure space you have chosen.
  • Arrange the secure space and the approach to it in order to ensure maximum accessibility and convenience. Remove any objects that may interfere with unlimited mobility. If you use a motorized wheel chair or a “Kalnoit” mobility scooter be sure that extra batteries, a battery charger and a non-motorized wheelchair are available.
  • Be prepared for situations in which it is impossible to use an elevator and you will have to be carried, without your personal wheelchair.
  • Be prepared for the possibility of a flat tire. Prepare a tire repair kit with the possibility of filling the tire with air as needed or prepare spare inner tubes and a pump.
  • Consider the possibility of equipping yourself with heavy-duty gloves so that you can turn the wheels to move the wheelchair on rough ground.
  • Prepare a folder indicating your personal information and equipment for a prolonged stay in the secure space, packed so that it can be attached to the wheel chair, walker, Kalnoit, etc.

For people with foreign assistants

Advise the foreign assistants of notices published in the media in foreign languages and on the website as well as in the information center of Pikud Haoref at Tel 1207.

For those with intellectual development disorders or autism

  • It is advisable to rehearse  the things they have to do to reach and enter a secure space and what they should do when they hear the “tzeva adom” broadcast alarm or siren.
  • Prepare medications, necessary auxiliary devices and important personal equipment. It is a good idea to prepare extra clothing, personal hygiene necessities, food and drink in accordance with the personal taste of the people in question. If special food is needed, prepare food that has been ground in a blender or food substitutes.
  • It is important to create a calm atmosphere in the secure space, with pleasing and relaxing activities. Tension and pressure can be dispelled through relaxation, involvement, calling the person by name, breathing exercises, etc.
  • If a person with intellectual developmental disorders has additional limitations (such as limited mobility or psychological problems), refer to the pertinent instructions for these limitations.
  • Prepare a personal identification card including: first name and family name, ID number, name of health fund and treating physician, name of accompanying caregiver, list of medications, blood type, special needs, allergies, critical medical information and telephone numbers of family members and friends.

Instructions concerning the secure space

In an emergency, warning sirens are sometimes heard. These sirens let us know that we are under missile attack. When you hear the siren, you should act in accordance with the following instructions immediately:

  • If you have a Mamad (a secure space in your home or apartment), enter the room and close both the door and the window. If there is enough time, you can go down to the shelter.
  • If you don’t have a secure space in your home or apartment and there is no way or time to get to a shelter, you should go to the place in your home that offers the best protection possible. The best-protected place in the home is an interior room that has few windows and no outside wall. If you live in a multi-story building, you can go to the stairwell.
  • Wherever you may find yourself at the time, you should stay away from windows and wait until the alarm ends and then wait a few more minutes to be sure that the attack is over.
  • It is desirable to be with other people – in that way you will feel more secure. In the meantime, you can speak with them or think about good things in order to calm yourself. When all is over, you can return to your house. Most important of all – don’t panic!

Preparations for people suffering from dementia

  • Locate a secure space in the house ahead of time and become familiar with it.
  • Become familiar with the shelter procedures for emergencies.
  • Identify the contacts, treatment and rehabilitation people who can help you in an emergency, if relevant. When escalation occurs, it is advisable to get medications, water and food in time.
  • If you have questions concerning yourself or members of your family, please contact an available clinic or rehabilitation facility.

Emuna News Analysis: No Logical Solution

09July2014
With Operation Protective Shield escalating fast, the Israeli Government faces a difficult dilemma: how does one stop the rocket fire from Gaza, that has already reached the Tel Aviv area? How does the IDF restore quiet, so that we can go back to normal living?

Retaking Gaza isn’t a tantalyzing alternative, for it could cost us dearly in blood. Besides, who wants to reassume control over 1.5 million Gazans?

A limited war targeting Hamas targets would have limited success in stopping the rocket fire from Gaza and would be drawn out for a long time. Don’t forget, most of Gaza subscribes to Jihad – to holy war. If they don’t affiliate with Hamas, then they belong or sympathize with Al Qaeda, Salafists, the Jihad Islami or such other organization that is determined to wipe Israel off the map.

A ceasefire at this time would be disastrous to Israel’s already waning power of deterrence. Be sure that Iran, Hezbolla and Syria are closely monitoring Israel’s movements in Gaza.

So what do we do? Nothing seems to be a logical solution…

That’s exactly what Hashem is conveying to us. There is no practical or logical solution. The solution is above logic. Hashem wants us to recognize the futility of anything that’s done without His help. He wants the Jewish People to turn to Him en masse. Hashem wants a massive effort in spreading emuna. Once we do that, He’ll solve the problem for us; whatever the IDF will do, they’ll succeed, as long as we understand the spiritual message behind what’s going on, for there’s a purpose in everything Hashem does.

The IDF needs your help! Join Breslev Israel’s wartime effort of spreading emuna, for this is the spiritual support that Israel needs to win the war! Emuna books and CDs are now available at cost, so mobilize now and spread emuna far and wide! If you’d like us to spread the books and CDs for you to IDF soldiers, you can make your tax-deductable donation to the American Friends of Emuna Outreach on the top left-hand toolbar of this site.

Whatever you do, don’t stop praying for the welfare of Israel’s populace and soldiers, may Hashem protect them, amen!

Comments: Yaakov
Here’s a little bit of “hhizuk” for all.

In Greek mythology (which for us is actually meaningless idolatry) the sirens were dangerous yet beautiful creatures, who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. Sirens misled men off their proper course to destruction.

Now the sirens of the air raids while they are indeed needed to warn us of real physical danger, must be taken differently than most of us do. We humans are easily misled off course to forget our source, our BIG ally. We shipwreck ourselves on the rocky coast of kfira in Hashgahha/Divine Providence. I learned years ago that yes a Jew must recognize danger & take proper caution. BUT he must NOT get “butterflies in his stomach”, panic etc for that is kfira. The Rav who taught us this when I lived in Emanuel during the 1st Iraq war 23 years ago & the intifada, told us “yes I have a gun on the seat next to me when I drive past Arab villages & would use immediately if need be, & I don’t enter them, especially not at night. That is proper caution. But I do not permit myself to feel jitters etc for that would be kfira in HaShem’s guiding & guarding hand.

When the sirens sang out back then in the evenings we went out to the street made a circle danced & sang things like “Ussu Eissa vetufar….” & “am Yisrael Chai”, & watched SCUDS that were coming down directly overhead CHANGE COURSE in midair! 2 fell on Arab villages & 1 into a mud filled valley!

From the Sci-Fi book “Dune” here is a line worth remembering; “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Don’t get tempted off course by the sirens.

Sure go to the miklatim, if you feel a need to, BUT without panic, without fear. Instead we must all; work on our EMUNAH, do soul searching tshuvah (without getting depressed from it), pray, help each other, give Tzdakah, increase our Ahavat Yisrael (love of our fellow Jew), sing dance find what to thank HaShem about & be happy about every day, even thank HIM for these noisy “wake up calls” & lovingly wake up others to these points.

It may sound nuts to you at 1st, but go for it & you’ll see it’s a great sanity saver & life saver.

Bebrakha

They now have the M-302 which can reach twice as far as that Fajar. This is evidenced by the missiles which got as far north as Hadera, Zikhron Yaakov & just south of Haifa.

Invoking God’s protection for the members of the Israel Defense Forces.
by Aish.com staff

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob — may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Forces, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our God, from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.May the Almighty cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighters from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under our soldiers’ sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is the Lord your God, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

Now let us respond: Amen.

Prayer for the State of Israel

Hebrew Prayer for the State of Israel

Hebrew Prayer for the State of Israel

This traditional version of the Prayer for the State of Israel was published by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel in 1948.
Our Father who is in heaven, Protector and Redeemer of Israel, bless the State of Israel, the dawn of our deliverance. Shield it beneath the wings of Your love; spread over it Your canopy of peace; send Your light and Your truth to its leaders, officers, and counselors, and direct them with Your good counsel.
Strengthen the defenders of our Holy Land; grant them, our God, salvation and crown them with victory. Establish peace in the land, and everlasting joy for its inhabitants. Remember our brethren, the whole house of Israel, in all the lands of their dispersion. Speedily bring them to Zion, Your city, to Jerusalem Your dwelling-place, as it is written in the Torah of Your servant Moses:
“Even if you are dispersed in the uttermost parts of the world, from there the Lord your God will gather and fetch you. The Lord your God will bring you into the land which your ancestors possessed, and you shall possess it; and God will make you more prosperous and more numerous than your ancestors.”
Unite our hearts to love and revere Your name, and to observe all the precepts of Your Torah. Speedily send us Your righteous Messiah of the House of David, to redeem those waiting for Your salvation. Shine forth in Your glorious majesty over all the inhabitants of Your world. Let everything that breathes proclaim: “The Lord God of Israel is King; His majesty rules over all.” Amen. Selah.

This alternative version is adapted from the Kol Haneshama siddur, 1994.
Please God, bless the State of Israel. Protect it in the abundance of your love. Spread over it the shelter of your peace. Send forth your light and truth to those who lead and judge it, and to those who hold elective office. Establish in them, through your presence, wise counsel, that they might walk in the way of justice, freedom and integrity.
Strengthen the hands of those who guard our holy land. Let them inherit salvation and life. And give peace to the land, and perpetual joy to all its inhabitants. Appoint for a blessing all our kindred of the house of Israel in all the lands of their dispersion. Plant in their hearts a love to Zion. And for all our people everywhere, may God be with them, and may they have the opportunity to go up to the land. Cause your spirit’s influence to emanate upon the dwellers of our holy land.
Remove from their midst hatred and enmity, jealousy and wickedness. Plant in their hearts love and kinship, peace and friendship. And soon fulfill the vision of your profit, “Nation shall not lift up sword against nation. Let them learn no longer the ways of war.” And let us say, Amen.
